Sales Attribution

See how much revenue your AI agent actually brings in — and how confident we are in each number.

Where to see it

All of the numbers below live on one page: Reporting in your dashboard, under Chatbot Performance & Sales. That is the place to measure revenue from the AI agent.

1

What gets attributed

When the AI recommends a product during a chat, we record that recommendation. If an order later turns up containing that product, we try to connect the two.

An attributed order counts its full order value, not just the products the AI recommended — if the AI helped land a 3-item basket, all three count.

Attributed orders are always a subset of your total orders. This is a measure of what the agent contributed, not of your whole store.

2

Direct vs Influenced

Every attributed order is matched by exactly one of two methods — they never double-count.

Direct — high confidence

The shopper clicked a product the AI recommended, and that same cart was checked out. Shopify itself stamps the chat session id onto the order, so the link is recorded on Shopify's side, not just ours.

This is audit-trail grade: you can open the order in Shopify and see the chat it came from.

Influenced — medium confidence

No session id on the order, but the shopper's email matches a recent chat and the ordered product was recommended within the attribution window.

A strong signal, not direct proof. Someone could have chatted, left, and bought later for their own reasons. Treat it as directional.

Tip

If you only want the number you could defend in a board meeting, use Direct. Use Direct + Influenced when you want the fuller picture of what the agent is contributing.

3

The attribution window

Influenced matching looks back 72 hours from the order. A recommendation older than that will not be matched.

The window is anchored on when the order was placed, not on the present moment — so a support chat that happens after a purchase is never credited with causing it.

Direct matching has no window: the session id is on the order either way.

4

Which channels count

The sales figures cover attributed orders from every support channel — widget, email, and social — not just the storefront widget.

The funnel underneath them is widget-only, because views and opens are things that only exist on a storefront. If the two sections disagree, that is why.

5

Reading the funnel

Below the sales cards, the widget funnel shows how storefront visitors find their way into a conversation:

  • Views — the widget was displayed
  • Opens — the visitor opened it
  • Conversations — they actually sent a message
  • Sales — the conversation was attributed to an order

A wide gap between Views and Opens is usually a placement or prompt problem. Dynamic Callout exists to close exactly that gap.

Getting more Direct attribution

Direct is the stronger number, and it only happens when the shopper reaches checkout from a product the AI put in front of them. Two things help:

  • Let the AI recommend products. Attribution starts from a recommendation — if product tools are switched off, there is nothing to attribute. See Configuring Your AI Chatbot.
  • Get more shoppers to open the chat in the first place. A greeting written for the product they are looking at converts better than a generic one — that is what Dynamic Callout does.

We can also tag attributed orders in Shopify itself so they are filterable in your admin. Ask support if you want that switched on for your store.
